Cagrilintide
Cagrilintide is another experimental medication that is being researched for weight management. It is a synthetic analog of the hormone amylin, which works alongside insulin to help regulate blood sugar levels and control appetite. Cagrilintide is being developed as part of a combination therapy for weight loss, typically in combination with semaglutide (a GLP-1 receptor agonist).
How It Works:
Amylin: A hormone produced by the pancreas that helps control blood sugar by slowing down gastric emptying (the speed at which food leaves the stomach) and promoting satiety (feeling of fullness). It also helps reduce the amount of sugar released by the liver after eating.
Cagrilintide mimics amylin’s effects, which helps control hunger, suppress food intake, and promote weight loss.
